Thomas Moore participates in Meridian University's program, "The Mystery of Embodiment ", a free four-day telesummit from Friday 2 December to Monday 5 December, 2011 with more than 20 teachers in the field. Each day of the telesummit features six to eight  live interviews, including live Question & Answer sessions at the end of the interview. You can listen to the interviews live by phone or webcast, or you can listen to the recordings of the interviews, available a few days after the interviews.

The program announcement suggests, "If you’re a somatic practitioner, a body worker, a teacher in somatic studies, or have an interest in yoga, dance, or trauma therapies — this telesummit will be of interest to you. It will be packed with cutting edge information and practices that can help you in deepening your professional work. Wisdom House hosts 2012 program with Moore

Thomas Moore offers the weekend retreat Soul and Spirit: Developing a Spiritual Life, from Friday 9 November to Sunday 11 November, 2012 at Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center, in the historic town of Litchfield, Connecticut . Scroll to the bottom of this linked page for the initial announcement. Registration is not open yet. According to the center's site:

"This property, originally known as Spruce Brook Farm, was purchased in 1949 by the Daughters of Wisdom from the family of Margaret and Frederick Busk. The Busk family estate became a convent and novitiate for the Daughters of Wisdom, and was named Mary Immaculate Novitiate. In 1960, the center also housed Seat of Wisdom College and in 1967, the center began its transition into an interfaith retreat center with the presence of a Buddhist retreat.

Wisdom House has several buildings on its campus, the oldest, with fireplace dates back to 1770. The barn, built circa 1925, is now a meeting room. The colonial brick building, an outdoor swimming pool, 50 acres of meadows and forests, all comprise the campus of Wisdom House."

Attend a week-long course with Moore in 2012

The New England Educational Institute posts the symposia schedule for its 2012 summer program on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Thomas Moore presents Spirituality and Care of the Soul in Psychotherapy from Monday 9 July to Friday 13 July 2012 at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Eastham. Register online before 13 March 2012 for the early price $539 US.

According to NEEI, "In this symposium, Dr. Moore will offer a way to practice therapy with a rich and positive philosophy of life while including paradoxes and challenges. Participants will explore the fundamentals of archetypal psychology and how it offers deep insight into healing. Participants will view filmed interviews of healers in order to obtain a complete picture of the qualities needed to be a healer. The “shadow” side of being a counselor or medical professional — problems of eros, power, money, belief, insecurity, and burn-out — will also be addressed."

Moore also offers this program on Marco Island, Florida from Monday 20 February to Friday 24 February, 2012. Register online before 1 December 2011 for the early price $499 US.

Psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, primary care physicians, counselors, nurses and allied mental health professionals are the intended audience, however symposia are open to anyone interested in the topic.

We need to expand our healing beyond science

Listen now to 11:11 Talk Radio host Simran Singh's interview with Thomas Moore about Care of the Soul in Medicine, recorded 1 July 2010. Moore begins the program by voicing his intention to keep patients and healthcare workers together in the book. According to the episode description, Moore "gives advice to both health-care providers and patients for maintaining dignity and humanity, providing spiritual guidance for dealing with feelings of mortality and threat, encouraging patients do not only take an active part in healing but also to view illness as a positive passage to new awareness."

Moore is 2011 Bob Russum Memorial Lecturer

Joseph Cole writes about Thomas Moore's upcoming lecture under the headline "Greenwich Lecturer Focuses on Body, Mind and Soul" for The Daily Easton. Moore is this year's featured speaker at the annual Bob Rossum Memorial Lecture to take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., 16 November 2011 at the Greenwich Library, Cole Auditorium, in Greenwich, Connecticut. Cole writes:

Moore will "discuss his holistic approach to health care, which he knows isn't the easiest for some to grasp. Modern medicine focuses largely on fixing the immediate problem. He wants to fix the whole being and believes that means addressing the emotional and spiritual elements as part of the recovery process.

To that end, Moore doesn't eschew the technology and methodology of medicine. He has had two shunts placed in his heart. He makes no qualms that without the physical end of the health-care spectrum, he wouldn't be here today to talk about the emotional and spiritual parts."

Restraint accompanies sex, beauty and grace

Today Thomas Moore posts "Dallas and the Soul" on his blog. This piece celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Dallas Insitute of Humanities and Culture, as a precursor to Moore’s appearance on 10 November 2011 to talk about his work and the theme of beauty. He shares:

"In Dallas I also hope to talk once again about Botticelli’s allegorical and beautiful painting la Primavera. I want to focus on the role of one of the Graces, Castitas, chastity, known by the Greeks as Aidos, Restraint. We don’t often think of restraint as part of the world of sex, beauty, sensuality and grace, but this painting makes it the turning-point in Venus’s universe. In the painting Restraint allows an opening to Hermes, the imagination of the world and insight into life. He points to clouds with his traditional magic wand, suggesting that we see images in an otherwise only practical and literal world. We need to pause and appreciate the beauty and significance of all that we behold with our senses."

The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture announces plans for the 6th annual James Hillman Symposium to be held Friday 27 Oct. and Saturday 28 Oct. 2017 with the theme Mythic Figures: "More than a dozen internationally known experts in archetypal psychology will explore the Olympians, the Titans, and other legendary figures in talks, breakout sessions, and informal conversations with participants. The featured book this year is Hillman’s epic work: Mythic Figures, volume 6.1 of the Uniform Edition of the Writings of James Hillman co-published by Spring Publications and the Dallas Institute, edited by Dr. Joanne Stroud, Director of Publications for the Dallas Institute."

"The 2015 James Hillman Symposium will address Hillman’s third volume, Senex and Puer. Senex and Puer are Latin terms for “old man” and “youth” and personify oppositional states such as old versus new, authority versus creativity, and control versus impulse. Speakers will discuss these primary patterns for how we perceive ourselves and others. Join us for a lively conversation of Hillman’s work in a series of talks and roundtable discussions."

"James Hillman's IMPACT on Pantheatre is mainly in the construction and figuring out of performance narrative, in what he called: making "image-sense". It applies especially to the setting-up of texts in performance. Hillman was a master at narrative mobility, which is the most important aspect of our training: how to make a move. Summary: "James Hillman is remembered as the author of papers and books, including Senex and Puer: An Aspect of the Historical Present, The Feeling Function, and A Terrible Love of War, that both explicate and deconstruct the premises of depth psychology in general and Jungian analytical psychology in particular. Although Hillman helped to found the school of Archetypal Psychology, the author of this memorial, who knew him personally, does not find him to be doctrinaire; rather he challenged even his followers, in raising his individual voice to assert the duty of psychological citizenship to pursue fresh understandings. The author argues that although Hillman's eventual subject was the soul of the world, the way he addressed it was quintessentially American."

Alternatives at St. James’s Church, Piccadilly, London, U.K. hosts Thomas Moore’s workshop The Natural Mystic: Developing a Spirituality of Everyday Life on Sunday 22 April 2012 from 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. The description for this event includes Moore’s view:

"In history we have many examples of special men and women who embody this ordinary or natural mysticism: William Morris, William Wordsworth, Henry David Thoreau, Emily Dickinson, and Glenn Gould are a few of my favorites.

The natural mystic loves this life, this world, and his or her bodily and sensual experiences. There is no tendency to avoid life or to be excessively pure and bodiless. At the same time, he or she is not unconsciously absorbed by the world but has various methods of retreat, resistance, and expression. Thoreau built a cabin by a lake and withdrew for two years of retreat. Dickinson stayed at home. Gould was eccentric and re-created music according to his genius. Morris made beautiful objects. Wordsworth understood the spirituality of nature."
