The Flamingo Room
Continuing Education Center
Eckerd College
4200 54th Avenue South
St. Petersburg, FL 33711

See the Barque post "Moore offers one-day workshop at Eckerd College " for more details.

On Monday 22 February, 2010 Moore is the first speaker in the college's 2010 Spring Burchenal Lecture Series. He will talk about The Ecology of Everyday Life: Caring for Your World and Your Deep Soul. This lecture, starting at 7:30 p.m. in Fox Hall on campus, is free and open to the public. The Center for Spiritual Life suggests, "Moore's perspective of continuous attending to everyday small details of life and soul in order to achieve happiness and wholeness offers a stunning counter to the dominant idea of fixing a single significant flaw in order to achieve happiness."

Thomas Moore speaks in Tampa on 13 Nov. 2010

Hay House offers the schedule for its I Can Do It! 2010 — Tampa event scheduled for 12-14 November 2010 at the Tampa Convention Center, Tampa Florida, on its Facebook page.

Thomas Moore speaks on Saturday 13 November, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in a concurrent workshop. According to Hay House, "Thomas speaks to the importance of healing a whole person — body, soul, and spirit — a person with emotions, history, family, and work rather than simply treating a body. He gives advice to both healthcare providers and patients for maintaining dignity and humanity during illness and treatment. Providing spiritual guidance for dealing with feelings of mortality and depression, Thomas encourages patients to not only take an active part in the healing process, but also to view illness as a positive passage to new awareness and possibilities for life."

Check Hay House's 2010 Tampa Convention site for pricing and registration details. Hay House offers a Work Exchange program for this event: "Receive a discount for the main conference in exchange for working behind the scenes. Positions are limited — apply early. Work exchange volunteers will not register for the conference, but will be able to attend keynotes and participate in concurrent workshops on a space-available basis when not fulfilling assigned duties. For more information, please contact the Customer Care Department at 800-654-5126 or e-mail cgabler@hayhouse.com."

Blogger summarizes Moore's education talk

Writing without Paper offers a synopsis of Thomas Moore’s 6 April 2009 presentation about liberal education at Marlboro College, in the post, "Thomas Moore on liberating education" . Blogger Maureen E. Doallas writes:
"During his talk, Moore articulates his premise that education that does not help us on a human level to plumb our depth and mystery prevents us from fully developing our individuality and creativity and fails to show us how to be "in community" with one another. Like our hospitals, which have become little more than places we take our bodies to be fixed, education, Moore maintains, has bought into the "myth of modernism"; it trains or engineers us to land a job and money, how to compete for power, but yields us no space for developing the deepest parts of ourselves. According to Moore, if we want a liberal education that offers the freedom to think, to study and talk about ideas, to reflect on what's important, we must let go our hold on "modernist mythology" that technology is better than human.

This may all sound very academic and esoteric; it's not, as you'll understand if you take the time to listen to Moore's engaging presentation. Moore argues a good case for putting the soul back in our life and, in particular, for re-visioning education as a means to doing that. We need to educate about the soul, not just stuff information into our brains. Education that fails to teach us about our soul leaves us incomplete human beings, Moore says."
Last month, Barque announced the availability of the presentation video on YouTube, in the entry, "Watch video of Moore talking about education”.
