We are of Earth: Nature's wildness is our wildness

In Peterborough, New Hampshire, The Mariposa Museum and World Culture Center hosts A Cooler World and Warmer People — Healing a Planet in Distress by Healing our Relationships with Thomas Moore and Hari Kirin on Wednesday 4 November 2015 at 7:00 p.m.
"What are some strategies for better human relationships that would translate to a better common life with the planet?

We have a tendency to take out our anger and frustration on beings dependent on us — children, animals and the natural world. We don’t respect them or love them fully. So, how do you deal with chronic anger? How can we ease our frustration?

Nature is both lovable and scary. We have a beautiful autumn and California has drought and fires. It doesn’t do to romanticize nature. Nature’s wildness is our wildness. We are afraid of it and want to keep it controlled. Maybe, if we had a better connection with our strong passions and fears, we’d deal with the natural world more effectively."
Admission: $10, free for members.

Religion is soul and spirit flowing into each other

The Fetzer Institute blogs "The Impressionistic Life: Insights from Thomas Moore" based on Moore's recent visit to the Institute. Under the heading "On Devotion and Spirituality" the post presents Moore's views as:
 — D.H. Lawrence found the incarnation of the divine in poppies and flying fish.
— When you do it right, there’s a soul quality to your spirituality.
— We want to live where soul and spirit flow into each other.
— My spiritual life has to be ordinary — a proper blend of spiritual and secular with no boundary between.
"He reminded us there is wonder to be found and mystery to be experienced in so much of what surrounds us — and what we are a part of — every day."

Viriditas is the ground of the soul's vegetative life

Read Thomas Moore's column, "The Veggie Soul" in the September-October 2015 issue of Spirituality & Health magazine. After describing the imprisonment of Rapunzel, Moore writes:
"It’s a short step to an ethical position associated with the vegetative soul: a desire to protect and help flourish this green world of plants and the colorful realm of blossoming flowers. Ethics is always a part of any substantial spiritual feeling. We love the green aspect of the planet because it has a soul that corresponds to a portion of our own soul. We love it, and want to care for it."
He then touches on the importance of plants in different religious traditions.
