Moore offers free public talk in Waterbury, CT

Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury CT hosts Thomas Moore's free public talk "Reviving the Soul in a Mechanical Age" on Thursday 23 March, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.
"Our age of technological invention is amazing in its imagination, ingenuity and the comforts it provides. It could even be the impetus for a deep cultural renaissance and spiritual evolution. But as of now, it has become stuck, fixated at the machine level.
Not yet have we freed the human soul to raise happy children, enjoy deeply fulfilling marriages, or create an approach to work that is humanizing. Not yet have we found solutions to violence. We need new and serious attention to values, well-being and needs of the soul, and we need it in education, politics, medicine, city planning — in every aspect of modern life."

Find rituals that inspire you to transcend yourself

Thomas Moore changes direction in his column "Your Highest Self" in the January-February 2017 issue of Spirituality & Health magazine. He looks up.
"The profound ancient Greek philosopher Herakleitos once wrote: 'The way up and the way down are one and the same.' But what does this mean? Perhaps that it’s necessary to go both up and down, or that you discover the same mystery upward or downward. Maybe we shouldn’t make such a distinction between ascending and going deep.
A clue may be hidden in the very old document known as the Emerald Tablet, used by alchemists and others. This is a long, mysterious statement often summarized to mean 'as above, so below.' The world we discover in our highest meditations is reflected in the realm of ordinary life or deep in our psyche. The Christian theologian Origen said, 'We all have a sky within.'"
On the weekend of 23-25 June 2017, Moore offers his program, Developing Your Highest Self: Making the Spiritual Life Real and Personal at Kripalu Center near Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Register now.
